A Catholic convert, Nehemiah owned a tract of 23 acres near Bardstown where he operate a grist mill. In 1819 he sold his brick home for $800 to Bishop John David, founder of the Sisters of Charity, who used the house as the foundation of their Bethlehem Academy.
