Chicago Tribune:
Rev. Joseph Joachim Hagan, 71, a Catholic priest and member of the Dominican religious order, taught Canon Law in River Forest and Dubuque, Ia., for many years. He was on the Catholic diocesan marriage tribunals in both areas.
Mass for Father Hagan, who lived in the Dominican priory in River Forest, will be said at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the priory chapel, 7200 W. Division St. in the suburb. He died Monday in the priory.
“He was a good teacher, a very good one,” Rev. Robert Goedert, the prior, said. “I had him for Canon Law. He always had a few appropriate jokes and was quite spirited.”
Father Hagan, a native of New Haven, Ky., entered the Dominican order as a novice in St. Rose Priory in Springfield, Ky., the oldest Dominican house in the United States. He received a doctorate in Canon Law from the Angelicum house of studies in Rome.
The Dominican house of theological studies was in River Forest until 1951. He taught there, while serving on the Chicago archdiocesan marriage tribunal. He moved to Dubuque when the Aquinas Institute opened there, replacing the Chicago theological school for Dominican seminarians.
Survivors include two brothers, Bert and Leo.
