103Ungvar was, at that time, part of Hungary, and thus, of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The Empire was on the losing side in the 1st World War, so a piece of Hungary that included Ungvar, was given to Czechoslovakia [other pieces were given to othe countries]. So, when the Fenyves family left Ungvar, they were on Czech passports. After WW II the borders were shifted around again, so that Ungvar was in Ukraine, and is now called Uzhgorod.
