Fought against General Benedict Arnold in Reviolutionary War.

Jan 1777 Williamsburg, Hanover, VA. Enlisted in Virginia line. Served under Captain Hause & Col. Thomas Marshall, artillery regt.

Recieved bounty land warrant for service in the American Revolution.

Montgomery County; State of Kentucky; 11 Jun 1822; Henry Benningfield aged 78, resident in said County... to the best of his recollection he enlisted in the year 1777 as an artificer in the 2nd Regiment of Artillery in Virginia commanded by Col. Thos Marshall; afterwards commanded by Cols, Muter & Col. Mathews and Col. Edmonds, who discharged him on the 12th Dec 1780 at Richmond Virginia. That his Enlistment # was for three years and that he served out that time in full.

In 1822 he stated that he had no property of any kind, no wife nor any home. He lives among the neighbors as he can, and has no mode of living, being unable to work for many years as a blacksmith.

Lived in St. Paul’s Parish, Hanover Co., VA. Moved to Bourbon Co., KY in 1794, and Montgomery Co., KY in 1818.
