From B.G. Burgelin, The Greenwell Family Tree , 22-23: John Greenwell was born in 1625 near Durham England and came to Maryland as an indentured servant of Edward Hall. He probably served seven years and was freed at age eighteen. His first wife, Mary Knowland, seems to have died in childbirth in 1650-51 while bearing his son James. John married secondly Bridget Sea born, but they had no children. A farmer and a Catholic, he owned Pileswoodland. He died in 1658.
