Joseph Hubert Peake, 69, of 1221 Garvin Place, died here Friday. He was a native of New Haven, a retired employee of Louisville Water Co. and an Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include four sisters, Sister Thomas J. Peake of Maple Mount, Mrs. Agnita Applegate of Grayson, Mrs. Christella K. Rogers of Lawrenceburg, Ind., and Mrs. Generose Sowers; and a brother, Richard Peake of Danbury, Conn. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St Catherine Catholic Church in New Haven, with burial In the church cemetery. Visitation at Hagan & Nusz Funeral Home in New Haven will be after 3 p.m. Sunday. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the American Heart Association.

When Hubert enlisted in the army as an infantry private, August 28, 1941, he told them his name was Joseph H Peake. His tombstone in New Haven, KY has him listed as Joseph C. Peake. Stationed in Hawaii during WWII. Was wounded in battle in the Pacific. Release from service June 20, 1945.

New Haven, Ky., May 20. Mr. and Mrs. T. Boone Peake were notified Friday by the War Department that their son, Pvt. Hubert Peake, had been wounded in action at Hollandia Bay, New Guinea. Private Peake, in the
Army more than three years, was in Hawaii when Pearl Harbor was bombed. Fred Peake, his brother, who was in the Navy, was wounded in action at Guadalcanal, and died November 15, 1942.

Hubert worked for many years at the distillery in Athertonville. He used to come to visit Helen Howard Peake in the 1960's and 70’s from his home in Louisville.
