Breckenridge spelled with an “E” according to his mother and Shirley Stark Stiles.

Attended St. Mary’s College, KS in 1929.

Shirley was living with Benny and Vera Rubin in NY and came to KY to visit Aunt Jane and Charles Newman. While in Bardstown W.O. had Jack show Shirley around. She fell in love with him but went back to NY. Later that year Jack and friend went to NY for the 1936 World Series and contacted Shirley. They eloped soon afterward.

Jack’s mother insisted that they be married in the church, so hey had that ceremony in Bardstown as well.

Betsy Stiles Hall remembers that Jack found a medium sixed barrel of bourbon that his father had stored up in the attic of their home on North 3rd St. in Bardstown. Jack was attempting to carry it out of the house when he dropped it on the stairs and it burst all over the floor.

Jack may have had a child with Lib Burckle in 1936, but there is no official record of this.

John Breckinridge "Jack" Stiles Sr., 75, died Sunday at St. Anthony Medical Center. He was a native of Bardstown and a retired route salesman for Donaldson Bakery. Survivors: his wife, the former Pauline Story; three sons, William Ogden of Atlanta, John B. Stiles Jr. of Owensboro and Kenneth H. Stiles of Kansas City, Mo.; two daughters,
Jacqueline Peake of New Haven and Vera Cecil of Coxs Creek; three sisters, Saragene Mattingly of Bardstown, Betsy Hall of Williston Florida and Nancy Arnold of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; and a greatgrandchild.
Funeral: 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Arch L. Heady Okolona Funeral Home, 8519 Preston Highway, with burial in Highland Memory Gardens in Mount Washington. Visitation from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and after 9 a.m. Tuesday.
